Greenhouse Helpers

Word Filled Wednesday

In the past years I have knock down the paper wasp nest and discouraged them from building in my greenhouse. That was until read how helpful they are to have in your greenhouse. Did you know? Wasps eat flies, aphids, caterpillars and other insects that pray on our gardens. This year I have not seen a single aphid or white fly on my plants. Since I have honey bees and I'm use to bees flying around me, I will let them stay.

  1. I have always wondered what good wasps are! After being stung too many times by hidden wasps in tire swings and under the handles of the wheelbarrow, I'm not a fan. But this is super interesting information.

    1. Thanks for stopping by. I have been stung by a bubble bee, yellow jacket, and honey bees but not a paper wasp, yet. So as long as they keep doing their job, they can stay :)

  2. We have yellow jackets and we always get rid of any nests. They are ultra protective of their nest and I've been stung several times when I come too close unexpectedly. If they nest far away, they aren't that much of a problem except at meal time when they love to land on our plates. - Margy

    1. We also have those pesky yellow jackets, too. These paper wasps are very docile, I water plants next to them and they just go about their business.

  3. I never knew they could be so helpful, I am always taking down the nests when we find them.
